Tanzania and Kenya

Celebrating life, 2012 was a big year for me – turning 55, graduating college with a degree, and 5-years cancer free.

Itinerary:

July 18 /19/20: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday
Los Angeles/London, to Nairobi, then to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania on July 20. 20 hours 35 minutes of flight time and 9,841 miles.

July 21 / 22: Saturday / Sunday – Tarangire National Park – Tarangire Sopa Lodge
Tarangire National Park, named after the river that flows through the length of the park and provides a constant water source for the thousands of animals that make this park their home.

July 23 / 24: Monday / Tuesday – Ngorongoro Crater – Ngorongoro Serena Lodge
Ngorongoro Conservation area; host to the “birthplace of man”.  It is also home to the unique intact caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater.  The crater is home to abundant game, including the “big five” – elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo.

July 25 /26: Wednesday / Thursday – Serengeti Plains – Serengeti Serena Lodge
Journey to the heart of the world’s best-known park, the Serengeti.  The park is named after the Masai word, “Siringet” for endless plains of short and long grass.  The Serengeti is well known for its large prides of lions, cheetah, and for nearly a million or so wildebeest.

July 27: Friday – Nairobi – Nairobi Serena Hotel
Overnight stay in Nairobi.

July 28 / 29: Saturday / Sunday – Lake Nakuru National Park – Lion Hill Lodge
Drive through the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park once described by ornithologist Roger Tory-Peterson as “the most fabulous bird spectacle in the world”.

July 30: Monday – Masai Mara National Park – Keekorok Lodge
Drive to Kenya’s most famous National park, the Masai Mara.  The Mara is home to the annual migration where millions of wildebeest and gazelle trek from the Serengeti plains into the Mara.

July 31 / August 1 / 2: Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday – Masai Mara National Park – Mara Sarova Tented Camp
Three days of the beauty and wilderness of the Mara with early morning and afternoon game drives.

August 3: Friday – Nairobi / London – Dayroom – Ole Sereni Hotel
After a morning game drive, followed by breakfast and 13 days of traveling between Tanzania and Kenya, the time has come for us to begin our journey home.  Depart Nairobi at 11:45 PM.

August 4: Saturday – London / LAX
Arrive London Heathrow Airport at 5:45 AM, transfer to flight to LAX which departs at 11:25 AM and arrival in Los Angeles at 2:50 PM.
